The outside neighborhood is an intentional community based on people’s interest for cooking and gardening. Its goal is to put the houses in a socially active atmosphere and create a community around the houses. The houses are designed around several courtyards and shape small clusters. Each cluster has its own commons block for people to gather around. The surface of the courtyards in each cluster is designed to hold several activities. It is conceived as a big kitchen table for people to grow vegetables, prepare food and eat together. There is mobile furniture including reading and sitting carts, barbeques, grills, fire places, etc for people to use wherever they want in the courtyard area. Each unit house is designed in a way to provide the opportunity of interaction with the other houses around it. There are shared terraces and winter gardens between the houses. The large operable windows for different spaces of the houses allow a better interaction between the inside and the outside. As for some unit types, the whole façade of the kitchen area could open up to the courtyard area.
