While maintaining its historical dignity, Grand Haven requires new connections between the city’s downtown and its waterfront. Defining a new riverside walk way as a main gateway to a reinvigorated city, the project site is to channel an active pedestrian flow towards a heart of downtown. New patterns are emerging from this site, and the implicit diagonal lines show the city’s potential prospect. Using the same gesture as the harbor front, the site body interpenetrated by the new pedestrian streams creates new interests while respecting its antique building. Among these interests are watery fragments in shops and galleries. The permeable huge threshold creates winds for a perception of water fragrance. The transparent waterfall will give senses of lights, sounds, and feelings through water. The perceptions of quality of water lead both citizens and visitors to recall the rhythms of nature.
