Function Machines

Function Machine

Enter a value for x and out will come a value for y.  Guess the function.

This function machine includes negative numbers.

Whole Number Cruncher

This activity allows the user to explore simple linear functions involving whole numbers.

It lists input and output in a table and will not let the user attempt to guess the rule on without at least having two data points.

It generates multiplication and addition functions to avoid outputting any negative numbers.

The functions available for exploration in the function machine activity have one of the following forms:

                                    y = x * __
                                    y = x + __

The underline can be any integer between 0 and 10.

Number Cruncher

Similar to the original "Function Machine" but lists input and output in a table and will not let the user attempt to guess the rule on without at least having two data points.  This activity allows the user to explore simple linear functions.

The functions available for exploration in the function machine activity have one of the following forms:

                        y = x * __
                        y = x + __
                        y = x - __

The underline can be any integer between -10 and 10.

Simple Plot

This applet allows the user to input a series of (x,y) ordered pairs and plot them either as a connected function or unconnected data points. Parameters such as minimum and maximum x value, minimum and maximum y value, and x- and y-scale can be set by the user or determined by the applet.

Graphit

This activity allows the user to plot ordered pairs and algebraic functions on the same coordinate plane. It combines the capabilities of Simple Plot and Graph Sketcher.
