  • The objectives are clear and well written and include a performance, condition, and criterion component.
  • The objectives meet the needs of the students in terms of interest, prior knowledge, and potential alternate conceptions.

Working Towards Expectations-

  • The objectives for the lesson where not initially apparent or they are stated but not clear.
  • The objectives are not clearly linked to state or national objectives.
  • The objectives describe a learning outcome but it does not make clear what the student will be able to do, know, or believe as a result of the instruction.
  • The objectives are not clear because they do not effectively use a performance, condition, or criterion component or one or more of these components are missing.

  • The objectives were weakly linked to state or national objectives.
  • The objectives do not describe a learning outcome. Instead, an instructional activity is described that indicates how a student will be taught.
  • The objectives are vague because they do not include descriptions of the student performance, the conditions for the performance, and criterion for judging learning.
  • The objectives make false assumptions about how to meet the needs of the students in terms of interest, prior knowledge, or potential misconceptions.

Not adequate-

  • The objectives did not tie to state or national objectives.
  • No objectives are stated, only an instructional activity is stated.
