September 10, 2008 - quake-ii-evolved-3.zip (318 MB) - requires Quake 2 v. 3.20
September 10, 2008 - textures_09-2008.zip (302 MB) is a complete high resolution texture set for Quake 2. It contains textures from textures_05-06-2008_tga.zip, textures_05-16-2008_tga_update.zip, other internet sources and my own mediocre ability with PhotoSop plugins and filters. These textures work in engines that support .tga and .png file formats. (This pack does not contain normal, spectral and light map files.) I was suprised how good they look in Quake2XP and KMQuake2.

August 25, 2008 - The data I uploaded on August 24, 2008 does not support "parallax" for the most part. I will implement parallax for non-metallic textures such as "grass", "mud", "rock" and "very rusty metals". I will create a patch and upload it with installation instructions.

Right now, I am playing Quake2 with B@Q2 and the current hi-res packs and enjoying what I see!

August 24, 2008 - The textures here are not part of a project. They have been collected since December 13, 2005 from sources on the Internet, some of which do not exist anymore. People have freely downloaded them from here and used them in their own projects. I have nothing to do with any project. I really like playing Quake2 and appreciate the effort others have invested in creating Great Engines. Each Engine I use has its own world and have different data requirements. As a result I reconfigure textures to function in different Engines.

overrides.pk2 (178 MB) and textures.pk2 (728 MB) will work in any Engine that supports \overrides, *.tga, *_bump.tga and *_light.tga enhancement. I will eventually modify these textures for use in KMQuake2, Quake2XP, Quake 2 Evolved and EGL.

To use overrides.pk2 (178 MB) and textures.pk2 (728 MB) in Berserker v 1.02 Internet_Install_Berserker.txt
Berserker v 1.02

1 - Download - http://berserker.quakegate.net/index.html
2 - Install
3 - Run and Configure

4 - In Main Menu, set Video:
    tex. compression ARB
    Bump compression ARB

5 - Remove:
    ATex`s_bump(lowres)-1.pk2
    ATex`s_FX-1.pk2
    ReTexture_uncompleted.pk2

6 - Place overrides.pk2 and textures.pk2 into \BaseBers

7 - Edit purepaks.lst

    Remove the line:
    ReTexture_uncompleted.pk2

    Add the lines:
    overrides.pk2
    textures.pk2

8 - You may want to Edit _Pak0.pk2; - expand archive, delete directory \textures, recreate archive

Problem: Graphics shearing or horizontal band of light with machine gun fire and picking up items
Fix: Video ->
tex. solid mode GL_AGB to Default or Default to GL_ABG or GL_AGB to Default or ...
tex. alpha mode GL_AGBA to Default or Default to GL_ABGA or GL_AGBA to Default or ...
     press [ENTER]
"This will restart video to resolve the problem"

Problem: Game crashes when Loading "Saved Game"
Fix: Restart Game, Load game "Entering ...", when level is loaded press F3 and load "Saved Game"

Screenshots from Berserker@Quake2 - images will be replaced whenever I get around to it.
Caution! - There are models in these screenshots that are not part of Berserker@Quake2.

August 21, 2008 - Updating the collectued Textures from the Internet (December 13, 2005 - August 21, 2008) organized into "overrides.pk2" and "textures.pk2" for use in Berserker@Quake2 or any other engine that supports \overrides, *.tga, *_bump.tga and *_light.tga enhancement.
July 11, 2008 - Unofficial KMQuake II Pack is found to bea Work-In-Progress. I was playing the mod "Heavy Industry" and found an error in kmquake2_models.pk3. The .md3 model for the combat armor does not display properly. Delete the newred*, tris.fx3 and tris.md3 files in the compressed directory \models\items\armor\combat.

July 10, 2008 - Uploaded unofficial .md2 models skins for Quake2xp and KMQuake II. The packs do not conflict with each other. Place either or both packs in \baseq2 directory for whichever or both port you have installed in your \Quake2 directory. Both packs contain some unused files that do not load or interfer with the current versions of Quake2xp and KMQuake II ports. Quake2xp (light maps work but normal maps do not) and KMQuake2 (light maps and normal maps are not working). Both packs look very good in game.
Unofficial Quake2xp Pack - q2xp1.pkx and Unofficial KMQuake II Pack - kmquake2_models.pk3

July 5, 2008 - Uploaded the best md2 skins for Quake2 that I have collected on the Web. Place the pack egl_models.pkz in the directory \baseq2 if you are using the egl port. If you are using a different port that supports high resolution.tga files, rename egl_models.pkz to egl_models.zip and extract it into the directory \baseq2.
I have skin packs specific to Quake2xp (light maps work but normal maps do not) and KMQuake2 (light maps and normal maps are not working). Both packs look very good in game. I will upload working versions when I figure it out.
July 5, 2008 - Correction: there is a graphics error in models.pk2 for Berserker. Extract models.pk2 into a /temp directory, Delete the three directories: models\objects\blaser, models\objects\laser and models\objects\loogy. Re-zip and name the pack models.pk2. Use this file in Game.
June 21, 2008 - ReStructured This download is deleted. August 18, 2008
models.zip - consistent set of improved Model skins from Berserker, Quake 2 Evolved, Quake2xp and EGL. (no data from Generations Arena)
Berserker_v1_HR_TM.7z - Berserker version 1.0 restructured with all .pk2 AddOns, High Resolution Textures, and Models (same as models.zip). I want my brother to play this version of Quake 2 (easy to instal - extract and make shortcut).
June 10, 2008 - I am currently sorting through the models used by Berserker http://berserker.quakegate.net/index.html, Quake2 Evolved http://rapidshare.com/files/84131698/Quake2_Evolved.7z.001 & http://rapidshare.com/files/84136104/Quake2_Evolved.7z.002, Quake 2 XP http://quake2xp.quakedev.com/ and EGL http://egl.quakedev.com/ & http://www-personal.umich.edu/~jimw/q2/specific/models.pkz to create the best looking models (Pack) for each port that will work without conflicts. I was emailed a request for the source of the models seen in some screen shots. Copy and paste the URLs above for the original game ports (there are additional files at these locations) or go to Raw_Models for just the contents of Quake2\baseq2\models in use by these 4 ports.
June 6, 2008 - Upload a corrected version of upd_zTextures_05-20-2008.zip (if you already downloaded upd_zTextures_05-20-2008.zip, delete it) Use the link below (May 27, 2008 - June 6, 2008 - Correction) and download (correct_upd_zTextures_06-09-2008.zip) This and (correct_upd_zTextures_06-09-2008.txt) instructions (right-click and "Save Target As..."). Also download and install the corrections for zTextures1.pk2 correction_zTextures1_06-09-2008.zip and zTextures2.pk2 correction_zTextures2_06-09-2008.zip

This is a small update to Berserker zTexture1.pk2 and zTezture2.pk2. There are two ways to implement this update, here is the installation instructions (right-click and "Save Target As...").

The Berserker screenshot was taken with my current config.cfg and I posted questions about lighting, smoke and blood on the Berserker Forum.

Breserker replied (right-click and "Save Target As...").

May 20, 2008 - Uploaded Textures Packs for Berserker

Berserker - The best high res Quake2 I have ever seen.

Homepage: http://berserker.quakegate.net/index.html (Russian Language)

English Translation Homepage: Game draft Berserker @ Quake2

You do not need either of the high resolution files offered below to play a Great Game of Quake II,
but if you have a very good or very-very good Video Card - try either of the texture packs below

@Tex created a high resolution pack with excellent _light and _bump texture support at
http://quake2xp.quakedev.com/@tex/re!texture/single/ (this pack is very demanding on Video and Memory)

Or you can place zTextures1.pk2 and zTextures2.pk2 in \Berserker\BaseBers
These two packs are a combinations of @Tex's work and the high-res textures I have collected below
(this compilation is extremely demanding on Video and Memory)

Berserker uses a different directory structure than the rest of the ports below. I have all these ports in the same \Quake2 directory.

Barnes
Quake II XP Developer
"Hi Jim! Sorry, but Berserker remove audio cd support. Please add our quake2xp engine on your retexture page (we fully support hi res textures and skins) Thanks"

"Quake 2 XP - just another engine conversion" http://quake2xp.quakedev.com/

"KMQuake II" http://kmq2.quakedev.com/

"EGL" http://egl.quakedev.com/

"Aprq2" http://www.kontula.net/files/aprq2/

Here is the complete set of Quake2 textures in .tga format configured to work in all ports except Berserker (see above)
unzip textures_05-06-2008_tga.zip into \baseq2

An ecellent Re-Texturing Site - http://tosher.h16.ru/ - here is an update to textures_05-06-2008_tga.zip converted to .tga format textures_05-16-2008_tga_update.zip

I seperated the model skins because EGL and kmQuake2 will conflict with each other. EGL uses the ..pkz files and kmQuake2 uses the .pk3 files. The quake2xp port uses .pkx files which are included from that sites download. The file formats .pkz, .pk3 and .pk2 are simply renamed .zip files. All of these port support the high res .tga textures. Model skin files go in the \baseq2 directory

EGL specific egl.pkz egl_blood.pkz models.pkz
kmQuake2 specific kmquake2.pk3 kmquake2_extras.pk3 kmquake2_levelshots.pk3

Here are some of the single player and coop maps I have collected - Map_List.txt

Configured for Berserker
copy_files_into_BaseBers additionally, download Q2maps_into_baseq2.zip and rename it maps.pk2

All the same maps configured for any of the other ports available above
extract_into_baseq2

Quake 2 High Resolution Texture Packs

I did not produce these texture. I found them on the web either in packs or as single images. They are high resolution images organized into directories and available for download as ZIP files. The directories do not contain shaders or any proprietary file specific to a particular Quake 2 port. The high res textures remain true to the original WAL files from the original game and look great in Action Quake, Quake 2 Evolved, Quake2Max and EGL which is the port my wife and I use to play Quake 2.

It is my understanding that you may use these textures in Quake 2. You may not use these textures for any other purpose without the permission of the author.

EDIT December 13, 2005: I was searching the web yesterday and may have found some new textures. More importantly I read some stuff about redistribution. I may have to pull these texture packs off-line. It appears to be O.K. to distribute a pack of textures in its entirety. I used partial packs from a variety of Retexturing sources and made them available for download in "per directory sets". This type of redistribution may be considered inappropriate. Below is a list of Retexturing sources I will contact to secure redistribution permission. So I will either be able to maintain the packs on-line or pull them.
Quake II Retexture Portal http://texture.dragonwerks.ca/default.aspx?Content=Sections
Stannum's Quake2 Retexture Project http://www.echon.org/index.php?section=retex&page=stannum
EGL http://egl.quakedev.com/
Quake2maX - An engine modification based on Id Software Quake II http://www.quake2max.com/downloads/textures/
There are 8 packs of Textures you can find on Idler's Hideout which I may have downloaded a few years ago via a backtracked broken link. These textures are probably collated into the zip packs available here.
Idler's Hideout - Powered by vBulletin http://idle.iceware.net/
I can not seem to find the addresses for Kingpin, the original high res model skins and a site that had an abbreviated version of textures done by the Blur people.

So, I will try to flesh out this list.

Quite awhile back I found "Quake II "High Res Skins" Pack, created by o'dium V1.1". It was 1.76 MB to download and looked good. Anyway, I used PhotoShop and It looks better. The original artwork is not my own, this is only an enhancement of what o'dium created along with some added model skins (items, weapons, ammo, armor, bad guys), you get the idea. I have collected allot of textures over time and I can make them available as e1u1, e1u2, e1u3,,, if people are interested. It combines all the packs I found and files from Quake 2 Retexturing Project. I was careful to keep coloration and style consistent and used Wally to make sure the images were as true to the original as possible.

The zip file of all the model skins for Quake 2 is 17 MB

models.zip you do not need this if youare using EGL, kmQuake2 or Berserker
