The Mackinac Bridge, gateway to the Upper Peninsula.

Upper Carp River, Porcupine Mountains (Oct 5).

Lake Superior.

Presque Isle Falls, Porcupine Mountains.

Looking north from Sugar Loaf Mountain as rainstorms come off Lake Superior, Marquette. I would rank this as one of the most beautiful viewpoints I've seen, a photo simply cannot convey the vastness.

The other side of the rainbow and distant rain on Lake Superior, Sugar Loaf Mountain.

The view looking south, towards Marquette, from Sugar Loaf Mountain.

Trees from Blackjack Mountain on a rainy day.

The Lower Carp River, Porcupine Mountains.

The Copper Peak ski jump which, at 26 stories, is the largest in the world. It's for something called "ski flying" where skiers are launched as far as two football fields (600 feet) in distance. Very few people can do this and no one has jumped here since 1994. Now it is open to the public for viewing the surrounding scenery.

The view west from Brockway Mountain, Keweenaw Peninsula.

The view east, towards the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula, the northernmost point in Michigan, from Bare Bluff.

Manganese Falls drops 45 feet into a very narrow canyon.

Manitou Island, just beyond the tip of the Keweenaw, can be seen on the horizon on the left side of this photo.

Color on the way to Bare Bluff.

Au Sable Point from Log Slide Lookout, Pictured Rocks. There were two surfers in the waves but they are too small to see in this photo.

Grand Sable Dunes during an early October snow storm, Pictured Rocks.

Au Sable Point from Log Slide Lookout, Pictured Rocks.

The view northeast from Grand Portal Point on a stormy day, Pictured Rocks.

Chapel Road, Pictured Rocks.

Forest leading to Miners Beach, Pictured Rocks.

Cliffs northeast of Miners Beach, Pictured Rocks.

Looking north near Arch Rock on Mackinac Island.

Bjorn and I (look closely) standing below Sugar Loaf Rock on Mackinac Island.

Round Island Lighthouse.

Cliffs and Lake Michigan from Fayette State Park.

At one time Fayette was alive with activity.
