Instructions for the GHB version of Marl.TTF ============================================ The file marl.ttf is the same as the old Marl font with the two new symbols (for gracenotes and unbeamed 8th notes) tacked on in empty slots at the end. i.e. I didn't replace the default symbols for "32nd gracenote upwards flag" and "8th normal downwards flag", so the font will act as before unless you override the defaults. Still, it's probably a good idea to put your original Marl.ttf file somwhere safe. The new font _has_ to be called Marl as far as I can tell. I'm using the Win95 version of Lime, so these intructions probably only make sense for that. If you figure out what do do on the Mac, please write it up and send it back to me and I'll post all the info I have on my web page. 1) Backup your old marl.ttf file. 2) Copy the new one to the Windows Fonts directory, replacing the old one there. I'm not sure if it also needs to be in the Lime directory, probably not, but I have one there anyway. 3) To use the new symbols in Lime, you must use Symbols/Parameters. There's no way to permanently override the defaults, so these parameter settings have to be in every score you create. I guess I should learn how to set up template files! 3a) Gracenote flags: in Symbols/Parameters select NOTE FLAGS / "stem up 32nd note flag" and set the cue/grace radio button. Delete the character in the 'Character' edit box and then hold down ALT and type 0254 (that's a zero, use the keypad number keys). The right character should appear off to the right. Click 'Save change' and then 'Quit'. 3b) Eighth-note flag: same idea, but select NOTE FLAGS / "stem down eighth note flag", set the radio button for 'Normal Size' notes, and enter ALT-0255. You don't need to change the x/y offsets because I made the symbols line up with where the old ones were. If you want to make changes to the font yourself, get the one and only shareware .TTF editor, Softy, from: > http://www.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/win3/font/softy105.zip > ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/win3/font/softy105.zip 140400 bytes It's a little buggy, but it got the job done. Won't work on the Mac, though. Please let me know if any of this doesn't make sense. cheers, Ewan Macpherson === Ewan Macpherson | "A pipe does not lend Hot Piping Stuff & WWW Bagpipe Index: | itself to surreptitious http://www.waisman.wisc.edu/~macpherson/pipes.html | use." - A.J.
