BARE, Amelia Rosie - Formerly of Grand Blanc, age 88, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2000 at Fenton Extended Care. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at the Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, Rev. David Ray officiating. Interment at Crestwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Contributions in her memory may be made to the East Central Michigan Chapter of the Alzheimers Association. Amelia was born in Sheboygan, WI on Mary 30, 1912, the oldest daughter of Frederich and Katherine (Spindler) Eurich and grew up in Frankentrost, MI. She began working for her uncle at Jacob Aab's Grocery in Flint at the age of 15. She married David Bare on November 12, 1944 in Flint, and lived in Grand Blanc since 1948. Mrs. Bare was a member of Halsey United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She had been employed by Hamady Brothers Grocery during the 1960s and 70s. Surviving are: husband, David of Fenton; 2 daughters, Beverly and husband Dr. Adger Butler of Detroit, Dawn and husband Chuck Bonney of Ypsilanti; 2 grandsons, David and Joel, both of Ypsilanti; 4 sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 1 sister. Her middle name *was* Rosie, not Rose. She joked that it came from the family cow. She was a talented seamstress and needleworker, tatted handkerchiefs for all my elementary school adult contacts (including the bus driver), and was admired as a cook.
Dave and Amelia lived the first two years of their marriage with another young couple who had the last name of Eurich. Both couples had their first babies in the house they shared, daughters born on the same day. They didn't think Amelia and Leon Eurich were related. Leon, b. abt 1922, was the son of Russian-born John and Margaret Eurich of Flint, MI, with brother Karl and sister Evelyn, acc to the 1930 census (dwelling 534, dist 66, Flint, Genesee Co, MI). John may have been the John Eurich who lived in 1920 in Flint with Jacob Aab, Amelia's Russian-born uncle-to-be when he married Anna Spindler.
Anna Maria Catherine WINTERODEM
from www.rootsweb.com/~vabath/bird-3.htm:
1737 - Anna Marie Catherine WENDEROTH, dau. of Johanes Casper WENDEROTH, was born, ca.1737, at Prince George Co., Maryland. She married, 23 July
1761, in the Evangelical Reformed Church of Frederick, Maryland, to John Philip JACOB.
The family lived near Lake Ann, MI until 1919. Their first single family address in Flint was across from Jake Aab's grocery store. An envelope addressed to them with a Wabash In 1939 postal mark has them at 3606 Alexander. (Otto Weber later bought that house.) According to brother Paul's son Ira, Wilbur and Paul's family lived together on Gillespie Street when they first moved to Flint to work in the shops. This is verified by the 1920 Flint census: 518-Paul 28, Ferne 25, Ardath 3 7/12; Wilbur 27, Alta 24, David 4 2/12. Brother John, 16, boarded next door, with (possibly Ferne's sister) Beatrice OBrien age 17, a William Clark, and the Sidney Bates family. All three Bare brothers worked in the auto shop.
Wilbur and Alta had three sons in the service during WWII. One day Wilbur's boss at Buick was growling behind his back that "people with family in the service think they get to run the place"; in response, Wilbur turned and punched him in the chest, knocking him down. The case went to court and the judge let Wilbur go. I don't remember him except as an ailing old man so it is good to know these kinds of stories.
There are two birth certificates for Wilbur at Huntington Co, IN: H-5:50, H-7:8. Only difference is that mother is named as Maud Billings in one and Maud McVicker in the other. His brother Pete has two certificates with two different birthyears.

1830. His parents, Henry and Elizabeth (Grone) Hoffine, were also natives of the same
State.
On arriving at the age of legal responsibility, Solomon left home and struck out into the
world for himself. First he spent three years as a farm laborer, and then for 12 years he
managed a rented farm; next, he bought a farm of 40 acres in Wayne Co., Ohio, which he
afterward sold, and bought 50 acres in Summit County, same State. On the latter he lived
and labored for 10 years, and then sold it and came to this county, in the fall of 1879, and
purchased a tract of 120 acres in Richmond Township, where he has made it his home.
Since first purchasing, however, he has disposed of 80 acres.
In his views of national questions Mr. Hoffine sympathizes with the Republican party.
He has served his fellow citizens in the capacity of Overseer of Highways.

REED CITY WEEKLY CLARION, Wed, Dec 8, 1899, p1 col5:"Obituary. Jacob Benzing, who has resided about one and one-half miles east of town for the past 31 years, died at his late residence on Tuesday, November 28, 1899 of heart failure. The deceased was an old and respected citizen. His funeral was held Friday, December 1 from the Zion Evangelical Church, Rev. J. Riebel officiating. His wife preceded him in death two and one-half years ago. The deceased leaves six children, all grown up, five sons and one daughter, besides other relatives and numerous friends to mourn their loss. The family desires to express their sincere heartfelt thanks to the neighbors for their many acts and expressions of kindness and also the choir for their rendition of appropriate selections at the funeral."
This from Wes Benzing, 5/7/01:
My great grand father "Jacob Benzing was born 6-1-1827 and pass away
11-28-1899. He was married to Christina Yough born 6-13-1837 and passed
away 5-19-1897. Both came from Baden-Wurtenburg area of Germany. I have
not been able to trace them back any farther as of yet! I believe they
entered the country in Buffalo NY, by ship and then made there way across
Canada to Michigan and setteled in the Reed City area....Jacob and Christina came to America from Schwenningen with Jacob's sister Anne b. 1829 on the ship "Cotton Planter" from Antwerp and arrived in NY on May 10 1852.Announcement :Benzing Clan gears up for big reunion this weekend" in local Osceola Co paper, 1986:
... "Together, Jacob and Christina boarded a ship and agreed not to marry until they arrived in America, since many passengers died on the long trip by sea. Upon arriving at Ellis Island, they were married and began their new life in the U.S.
The couple made their first home in Buffalo, NY. Here two sons, Jacob Jr. and John, were born. The family began its travel west and up into Canada, where Christ, Charles, Abel and Anna Catherine were born into the family.
The last and final move by this German immigrant couple was made to the Reed City and Hersey area about 1870, which was the birthplace of the last child, William.
According to the senior members of the family, Jacob supported his large family by farming and following the logging trade. The sons established themselves as farmers and loggers in and around the Reed City and Hersey area as well. All the children remained in this area except Anna Catherine, who married and moved to Traverse City, and the youngest son, who made his home in the Upper Peninsula.
Jacob Jr served as supervisor of Hersey Township in 1912, 1914 and 1915.
The Hersey Evangelical Church membership book shows the family as members in 1885...."
(Ellis Island's immigration station opened Jan 1 1892 per www.ellisisland.com/timeline.html)ancestry.com's Jauch surname message board: "Dawn,
One possible reason they went first to Buffalo is that there was already a JAUCH family there (perhaps your Christina's parents?). I have also seen BENZINGs in Buffalo as well.
In fact in 1852 there is a Benzing that marries a Jauch, according to my notes... Let me see if I can find the details.
Hee hee! It's your couple, Dawn!
Jacob Benzing married Christina Jauch (that spelling) on 21 August 1852 in St. Peters German Evangelical Church (p. 47, entry #87) in Buffalo, NY. Witnesses were Jacob Schlenker and Johann Quattlaender. Schlenker and Quattlaender are two Schwenningen families that also settled in Buffalo.
I have the St. Peters films on permanent loan at my local FHL and would be happy to make a copy of this marriage record and mail it to you. You can contact me off this board at jillainedc@yahoo.com.
In the meantime, Dawn, can I add you to the list of JAUCH researchers that I maintain on the web? See my "JAUCH" page below.

23 Mar 1881, Page 4, Column 4:
"Isaac Bare, an old settler of Polk township, who died on the fifteenth day February, was at the time of his death the father of fifteen children. On last Wednesday, March 16, this twenty-first child was born, it weighting thirteen pounds at birth. He was married twice. The first time in Preble county, Ohio, where he removed to this county. His first union resulted in nine additions to his family, of whom but one is now living. His second marriage resulted in twelve additions to the family, of whom ten are living. Mr. Bare was one of the stalwart Republicans of Polk township, and his six boys will file in year after year and increase the ranks of the grand old party three of whom will be old enough to vote at the next presidential election.
He will not only be missed by his family, but the community will miss a king friend and neighbor, and the Republican party a good worker."Acc to 1910 census, Lydia had 12 children, 9 of whom were still living.

a well known intinerant preacher in Preble and Darke Counties during the mid 1800's. Their daughter, Mary Jane
ROBERTSON, married John COBLENTZ in 1847. The COBLENTZ' were my gggrandparents.(I have noticed Isaac Robertson as the preacher who married many couples in a list of marriages).

The Federal Land Series vol 3 lists a patent to Henry Baer issued by the Cincinnati Land Office for land in the third or military district, township 6, section 22. This same land was owned by Jacob Bare per Audrey Gilbert book on land records in Preble county.
The Isaac Bare m. Elizabeth Ault connection -- Elizabeth was born in Washington Co PA, m Jun 20 1811 Mt OH Isaac b. c. 1779 Lancaster PA, d. 1825 Montgomery Co OH. Isaac had land patents issued 1809-1813 only approx 10 miles SE of Jacob Bare's Twin township Preble County land, and the diagonal "Germantown" road connects them directly. The 1820 Ohio census lists him as living next to Phillip Simpson (related to Nancy's Jeremiah??). See http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Village/5518/ault2/pafg05.htm#907, for more on this family.

The Warren County Ohio Genealogical Society in Lebanon had among notes in the Wintrode family file that Jacob Bare was granted land by George Washington on Sept 30, 1794. Written by Hazel Spencer Phillips, curator. Sept 30 1794 was the date of Washington's signing the land patent for the Symmes Purchase, and Jacob's land was in the military tract (3) of that area, which Symmes granted to Jonathon Dayton to set aside for veterans. He bought some Turtlecreek Twp Warren County land from Judge Jacob D. Lowe, range 3, township 5, section 22, deed recorded January 29, 1807 (Vol 1, p 408 in Warren County Deedbooks). He sold land at least 4 times in Warren County between 1815 and 1818, to Moses McIlvain, Andrew Lytle, Simon Hagemon, and Adam Wintroud (aka Wintro) (Vol 7 of the deedbooks). He moved to Preble Co, OH, and according to letter to Bare Family Newsletter Nov/Dec 1988 from Aunt Nell Bair, sent by Mrs Howard Bair of Nyssa Oregon, he settled on the old Van Winkle farm.
from Aunt Nell's letter: "In Father Bair's book of 1890 he said that by 1873 three of Henry W. Bare's brothers had gone to Logansport, IN, as one of their sons John came to visit at West Alexandria, and that this John moved to corner of Nebraska and Kansas and the Missouri River around 1880."
