Lifes Playground

Will you walk with me
to the playground?
The one where I skinned my knees
on the slide of anticipation
that carried my bones to the sea.

As the salt wears the bone down
to nothing
and the undertow drags it
so deep
I would be free to tell you
my secrets
you could see what was underneath

See the child playing in the
sandbox
his journey about to unfold
he digs deep to bury his
salt ridden tears
hide them before he grows old

see the girl swing so high
her small toes are grazing the leaves
she's thinking that she can fly
see the boys over there whispering
shh! don't tell her it's a lie

Will you walk with me
to the playground?
The one where she'll skin her knees
on the slide of anticipation
that carries her bones to the sea.
