I saw your message in the Turner/Burnett mailing list. I am also a descendent of Shadrach Turner through Shadrach/William/Meshack/Mary Frances Turner Goode/Peter Leftwich Goode/ My great-grandfather was Peter Leftwich Goode. I've seen a book called "Leftwich-Turner Families and their connections", didn't look at that book long, but couldn't figure our the connection with the ancestors to the Leftwich family. There must be one if my great-grandfather's middle name is Leftwich. I have found a lot of information about the Turner Families descending from the brothers Shadrach, Meshach and Abendego(sp?). I have the sources written down at home. I found some really interesting items from the Virginia Tech Library online. I was able to request from their Special Collections Library copies of research done on the Turner family, including actual copies of two handwritten letters written by a Meshack Turner to his wife during the civil war. The special collections library in on the website of the Virginia Tech Library. Nancy ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Jun 1999 20:30:51 -0700 From: "Beverly L. My James R. Turner is said to be from Patrick COunty, Virginia. I have no information on his parents or siblings. He is buried at the Turner cemetery in Dickenson COunty, Virginia. On his headstone it states that he was born APril 4, 1836. He was married to Sarah Jane Wood, daughter of Josiah Wood. It also states that he was in Company "D" of the 51st Infantry. Unless there are two of them that were in the same company I can't explain this. I've been told that he spoke with a broken English accent. He left Patrick County around 1837 and moved to Buchanan County, now Dickenson County and also lived off and on in Greenbrair County. I'd appreciate any help anybody could offer. I'm stuck on him and can't seem to go any further back. All my leads go back to the James Richard you have listed. I was under the impression my James's middle name was Robert but this could be wrong as he named one of his son's Richard. Thanks, Wilma _Mitosis_ wrote: > Okay...
