PIRATES ATTACK
APRIL 13, 1997
The same old gang of idiots with two newbies got together to do a big 25mm pirate vs Spanish colonial game designed by Charlie Zwinik. There were 3 Pirate commands: Dutch, French, and English; and 3 Spanish: the Governor, the town and the planatations. Rules were DBR. The date was mid-1600's. By the way, the sand on the pirate bases is from the beaches of the Bahamas. I have used larger pictures on this page. Please let me know if you have trouble reading them (beattie@umich.edu)
Here is the rough draft of the map, found on the floor after the battle, with the troop strengths added. The Spanish also had 2 Ship(S) and an Art(S) in the fort. The pirates had 3 Ship(F). Both flotillas spared with each other in the bay with no results. The fort gun did knock out one pirate ship. With a factor of +4 it is hard for the ships to do much damage to each other. The Spanish ship did manage to destroy one pirate Wb(O). If one side has ships and the other does not, then there could be some interesting results as the powerful ships guns can fire every turn on the shore elements at 300p.
The events of the game can be summed up quite simply. The pirates moved piecemeal toward their objectives. The English on the right divided to close with the Spanish shot and pike and were hit by the Spanish lancers. Bang, and good bye 6 double ranked warband in two bounds. The Dutch seperated by the fields and streams of the plantation area were hit by lancers and Bing Bang Boom, 6 double ranked warbands and shot were never heard from again. The French contingent in the center, captured one plantation and one house in the town and was clearly the Pirate winner.
