Added another peppermint shrimp about a week ago, since we hadn't seen one of ours for about 2 weeks. (I'll add a picture at some point). (Note: the missing shrimp reappeared a few days later!)
Added a purple ricordia May 2:

The first one that split off moved out onto some algae, and ended up floating loose around the tank. I put in in a hole in another rock (using a turkey baster!) and it seems to be doing fine, but is hard to see. |

In case you're wondering what that light pink/purple colored crud
growing on the back of the tank is:
it's coralline algae, a kind of algae that is pink to purple in color and grows a calcium-based skeleton, like corals. For some coral reefs it's the main source of growth near the surface. It's a good thing to have, especially because once it takes over it makes it hard for the more annoying green algaes to grow. It's a real pain to clean off too, it takes a lot of scrubbing to keep the front glass clean. |
