I've played Mage a few times but tend towards theWerewolves cause many GM's don't like to run Mage in Live role Playing Games. Although I did turn a live session upside down with a Euthanatos character and another player also running a Euthanatos mage.

Well, I've played Mage some, and have recently become involved in a Mage campaign that is just beginning. What exactly did you want to know?

I'm very new to gaming of any kind, so I'm not really sure what I'm looking for in the way of advice....Maybe just a general overall...Playing Mage 101..Character development i.e.fleshing out the character tips?  That would help for starters...

Okay, on character development, Tradition helps a lot, as does deciding what exactly caused your character to Awaken (note that this is an extremely significant event in your character's life, and was often traumatic). The essences can help you decide what kind of person your character is deep down, beneath even the level of Nature. For example, my character's essence is Questing, because she is always seeking to learn and experience and understand more. Life is an eternal quest for her, without end. The think of how your character would do magic - what gestures or items would they use? What would they use magic for? What kinds of things would they relate to? Are they into Nature and the body? Then give them life?  The structure of things? Matter. Etc. Don't worry so much about what they can do with a certain level of a Sphere (unless it's integral to your concept that he/she can do *that*), but instead think of what the character would want to do with magic.

Does this help you out at all? Feel free to email me for more help, or post on here again.

When I make a character in any system, I think first about what I want for the character. I go through the books making notes on what sounds neat or fun and then see which of those actually fit the character I'm building and which I can actually afford.

Ask yourself questions about your character. Where did she grow up? What sort of childhood experiences did she have? What's important to her now? What does she know about 'evil' and how does she feel about what she's encountered?

Given the nature of the World of Darkness, it's pretty easy to put lots of things into a character's background that the GM can use for future plots. (Of course, I tend to start off with characters who've already had a rotten life and want to try to make sure other people don't.) Those things can also make an interesting framework to develop a character around.
